How it works

Geothermal heating and cooling is a method of keeping your home or office comfortably warm or cool by using the built-in temperature equilibrium of the earth as a reservoir. Like the air inside a cave or a cellar, the earth stays right around 55 degrees all year round. Geothermal systems incorporate an “earth loop,” or series of pipes that make an underground circuit, and an indoor compressor unit. There are “open loop” and “closed loop” systems. Water is circulated through the earth loop and then back into your home or business, where the heat that the water absorbed out in the earth loop is picked up by a heat exchanger and compressed to a higher temperature, high enough to comfortably heat your home. In the summertime, the system works in reverse, gathering up hot air in your home and carrying it off to be left behind in the earth loop. By using this resource of stable temperatures right under our property, we can make it a lot more efficient to keep the house nice and comfortable all year round.
